Trump had said he’d be “stupid” not to accept the luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar’s royal family, but the president’s willingness to accept the gift has raised alarm across the political spectrum over what Qatar may expect in return.

“The Boeing 747 is being given to the United States Air Force/Department of Defense, NOT TO ME! It is a gift from a Nation, Qatar, that we have successfully defended for many years,” Trump said in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, late on Tuesday, May 13.

The gift raises questions about the scope of laws that are intended to thwart corruption and improper influence, legal experts said.
