The NFL world lost its mind when Brock Purdy signed a $256 million contract extension. As expected, the majority of fans’ takes are either Brock Purdy is overrated or Brock Purdy is worth every penny of that $256 million deal.

Mike Florio and Chris Simms take a look back on the 2022 NFL Draft class and recall where those other QBs have since landed.

Purdy’s $265 million contract extension sets a benchmark as Texans turn attention to C.J. Stroud’s 2025 contract year.

Spencer Burford, Nick Zakelj, Kalia Davis, Brock Purdy. Combined, they have 65 starts—36 of which belong to Purdy. And they are all that remains of the San Francisco 49ers’ 2022 draft class.

Purdy’s deal is a record for the 49ers: for context, in 2018 the side handed their then-quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, a five-year, $137.5 million deal. Now, the last pick in the 2022 draft – No. 262 overall, a pick which saw him dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant” - is certainly doing well to get rid of his nickname.

The San Francisco 49ers 2022 NFL draft class was not particularly good. Quarterback Brock Purdy saved it by becoming a franchise quarterback. While that group of players hasn't panned out, the following year's class is on track to actually be worse.

The next one to get a new deal will be Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. He’ll become eligible after the 2025 regular-season finale. (Which means that the Texans could sign him to a new deal between Week 18 and the playoffs, if the Texans qualify.)
