The National Weather Service confirmed two more tornadoes hitting Michigan last week; bumping up the 2025 total.
Michigan's recent string of tornadoes has brought the statewide total to 25 so far this year through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. "Through mid-May, that's the fastest pace we've experienced," said Steven Freitag, a meteorologist with the agency based in White Lake Township.
Michigan has recorded 25 tornadoes in 2025, the most in 15 years, as cooler, rainy weather moves in for the rest of May.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An additional two tornadoes have been confirmed in Barry and Ottawa counties from Thursday’s storms. According to the National Weather Service, an EF1 tornado touched down in Barry County near Heron Pointe. The tornado had estimated winds around 100 miles per hour and stayed on the ground for 6.75 miles.
The line of severe storms that rocked Michigan produced a total of nine tornadoes, the National Weather Service reports.
Three tornadoes, with the strongest being an EF-1, struck Southeast Michigan, causing tree damage and affecting buildings.
