Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the third player in franchise history to win NBA MVP honors, as the guard was named the 2024-25 NBA MVP on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

While winning the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award is the highest honor a player can individually receive, Gilgeous-Alexander is more focused on the bigger prize — winning an NBA Championship this season. He’s just seven wins away from making that happen, which would truly make this one of the most impressive individual seasons in recent history.

"Breaking: Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the NBA MVP award, sources tell ESPN," ESPN's Shams Charania wrote on X. The former Kentucky star beat out Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, a three-time MVP award winner, and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, a two-time winner.
