BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Just days before 10 men broke out of a New Orleans jail, officials with the sheriff’s office asked for money to fix faulty locks and cell doors deemed a key factor in the escape.
Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said OPSO mishandled evidence and that the state was responsible for some inmate delays.
While seven escaped prisoners, including two murder suspects, remain at large after a dramatic jailbreak from a New Orleans three days ago, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry joined "America Reports" and issued a stern warning to those inside the jail who might have helped the inmates escape.
Eleven inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans last Friday morning. One inmate was captured three miles away from the detention center, while three others have been apprehended since.
