The National Weather Service and AccuWeather both warn of severe weather that could affect the Southeast region, though forecasts remain uncertain.

A storm front brought strong winds and possible tornadoes, leaving numerous structures damaged near Bennett and Elizabeth.

The Jackson, Kentucky, weather service office recently cut overnight staff but meteorologists were called in to handle the deadly tornado outbreak.

On Tuesday at 11:54 p.m. an updated tornado warning was released by the National Weather Service in effect until Wednesday at 12:15 a.m. for Calhoun County.

Additionally, there was no evidence that tornado sirens in the area had been deactivated by the Trump administration's budget cuts — if there was, the people affected by the storm certainly would have noted that fact in interviews.

A multi-day severe weather event continued on Tuesday as tornado warnings were issued in at least five states.

On Tuesday at 8:49 p.m. a tornado watch was released by the National Weather Service in effect until 10 p.m. for Cullman, DeKalb, Jackson, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall and Morgan counties.

The agency’s office in Jackson, Kentucky, had begun closing nightly as deep cuts by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency began hitting. But the weather service kept staffers on overtime Friday night to stay on top of the deadly storms, which killed nearly 20 people in the Jackson office’s forecast area.
