In the movie, Chaplin's character tries to persuade director Henry Lehrman to lend him some money. Soon after, he finds himself caught up in a hilarious tangle of events that includes proposing to a woman, getting into a fight with Lehrman, stealing a camera while a journalist is helping a trapped motorist, and being chased by the Keystone Kops.
