Last week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the completion of a major coastal resiliency effort on Montauk Point to restore the shoreline damage caused by Superstorm Sandy and provide long-term protection for the newly-renovated historic Montauk Point Lighthouse on Long Island. Lighting the Way No visit to Montauk is complete without a stop at the famous lighthouse. Located at the very tip of eastern Long Island, the Montauk Point Lighthouse provides 360° views over the Sound, the Atlantic Ocean, and a beloved icon monument. The lighthouse has quite a history. It was commissioned by George Washington in 1792, and was the first to be built in New York State. It is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States, and named a National Historic Landmark in 2012. T
